Its so good to see this poem highlighted. Its been one of my favourite poems for over 20 years and it is so well focussed on its message that I’ve always been surprised to see it little used and little known.

He is so right, if you believe in heaven & hell you have to tell others even if its socially uncomfortable.

I’ve also heard ‘wick’ a lot, but I don’t know if it’s more a young person’s expression here.

Means ‘in bad condition’ or ‘appalling’ anyway.

‘I feel totally wick after that curry last night.’

Totally beezer mate!
We don’t really speak like that do we?? ha ha!
That’s a really good ulster phrase starter pack.
The longer you live here, the more weird and wonderful sayings you will learn, such as “wind yer neck in, ye buck eejit!” - meaning “don’t be so silly you daft idiot!”
P.s. I will be praying for you and your family as you move here to our wee country that you will settle in well and that the Lord will bless your ministry.

Great to hear about your Love Belfast event. My Church has started a Love Belfast ministry. Love Belfast is the practical expression of our heart and love for people in Northern Ireland. Our Love Belfast teams provide practical help and support to the local community through “people helping people.” So Will out that date in my diary and may get our team down on that day. Anything to help people in Belfast and beyond is brilliant and more than welcome in my view the more the better. God Bless
